Crudele and Boll went up the burned-out stairs, despite hazardous conditions. Upstairs, they found that the blind and bedridden man was unconscious, the village said. They removed him.
"Firefighters on scene demonstrated high levels of skill, teamwork, and commitment to life safety despite structural compromise and heavy smoke conditions," the memo said.
Boll and Crudele are being given Medal of Valor awards.
