Residents Douse House Fire with Garden Hose

No one was injured in the Sunday evening house fire in La Grange Park.

La Grange Park, IL — La Grange Park fire companies responding to a Sunday evening fire arrived at the burning home to find a person standing on the roof with a garden hose as smoke rose from the attic.

The fire department was dispatched at 5:53 p.m. July 17 to the 1100 block of Meadowcrest Road, according to the La Grange Park Fire Department.

An investigation revealed a grease fire started inside the home and spread to the attic through an exhaust vent, and residents put out much of the fire with the garden hose before crews arrived.

Firefighters removed vents from the roof and burnt insulation and material from the attic to make sure the fire was extinguished.

No one was injured, and the estimated damage is about $3,000, according to the fire department. Firefighters helped the homeowners cover the roof vents before it rained.
