Ring Buyer Victim In Scam: La Grange Cops
The seller threatened to release the buyer's browser history, police said.

LA GRANGE, IL – A man trying to buy an engagement ring became the victim of a scam, La Grange police said.
On Jan. 3, a 42-year-old man showed up at the police station to say he messaged a suspect identified as "Jeff."
The victim said Jeff advertised a $1,100 Tiffany engagement ring on Craigslist. They planned to meet at Starbucks in downtown La Grange to complete the transaction, police said.

When the man got there, he contacted Jeff, telling him what he was wearing.
Jeff then told the man that his Social Security had been compromised and that his browser history would be exposed to his employer, police said.

The man told officers that he did not know how he had been compromised and said he did not release such information to Jeff.
The man said he wanted charges to be filed if Jeff is found.
