Riverside Residents Show Support for Police

People have delivered food, candy, flowers and thank-you notes to police officers.

Riverside, IL — Over the past weekend, several Riverside residents emailed the chief of police and left voicemails thanking the Riverside Police Department and the police officers for their service to the community.

Several residents went to the police lobby and delivered food, candy, flowers and thank-you notes to the officers to show support after the assassination of five police officers in Dallas, Texas.

Chief Tom Weitzel sent an email to both sworn and civilian personnel regarding the tragedy. On Sunday, he sent an email to Riverside residents, thanking them for supporting the Riverside Police Department and all law enforcement.

"The outpouring of support from the residents of Riverside has been outstanding." Weitzel said. "Those who came in or contacted the police department unsolicited just to express their support for not only the five officers killed in Dallas, but for local law enforcement means a great deal to us. Each and every member of the Riverside Police Department would like to thank the community as we are all extremely grateful for the acknowledgments we received."
