Chamanara was arrested several times for misdemeanor crimes before his felony stalking arrest March 4 in Riverside, police reported.

"Until this case in Riverside, the court system failed to serve justice to the victims," said Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel in a statement. "Each time he was arrested, he was able to bond out on a misdemeanor and received no significant jail time. I am extremely gratified that in this case he was sentenced to two years in prison for his acts that were committed in Riverside.”

The Riverside investigation began when the teacher called police to the school parking lot because his windshield wipers and part of the wiper unit had been torn from his car. The teacher told police he's had problems with Chamanara since he testified against Chamanara in court in 2002.

Chamanara has also stalked former NBA basketball player and coach Jeff Hornacek in Illinois and Arizona, police reported. He was convicted and sentenced in 2010 to five years of felony probation for stalking Hornacek.

Riverside Police notified the probation department in Paradise Valley, Arizona, of Chamanara's conviction in Illinois. They asked Arizona authorities revoke Chamanara's parole status in Arizona. No determination had been made on the request.
