LA GRANGE, IL – The driver of a semi-truck received a couple of citations after a crash with a train Friday afternoon in La Grange, authorities said. No one was reported hurt.

The driver crossed onto the tracks at La Grange Road, disregarding the gates and signals, Metra spokeswoman Martha Hill said in an interview Tuesday.

All the equipment was reported to be working properly, she said.

The westbound freight train struck the trailer, with the crash knocking down a pillar at the train station.

The truck driver, a 46-year-old North Carolina man, was cited by Metra on a charge of disobeying a signal for an oncoming train, Hill said.

La Grange police, meanwhile, ticketed the man on a charge of damaging village property.

The driver worked for Murray, Kentucky-based Paschall Truck Lines Inc., according to Metra.

Metra, rather than another agency, is investigating the train crash because it was affecting the commuter service, Hill said.

The inquiry continues, she said.
