Why Garbage Truck Hit La Grange Park Shop
The truck was embedded in the front of the business.

LA GRANGE PARK, IL – It was hard to tell why a garbage truck hit a La Grange Park business last month.
So Patch filed a public records request to find out.
Shortly after 8 a.m. Aug. 21, police were called about the LRS truck crashing into Heart's Desire antique shop, 1014 E. 31st St., which was closed at the time. The truck was embedded in the front of the business.

According to the police report, the driver, who is from Cicero, was headed north on Newberry Avenue and turned left onto 31st Street.
Witnesses said the driver kept turning and speeding up, making a U-turn, the report said. That caused the truck to go off the road, striking a tree and crashing into the business, police said.

The truck was the only vehicle involved in the crash. No pedestrians were hit.
The driver was cited on charges of damaging village property and improper lane use, police said.
