Shots Fired At Zion HS, 2 Cars Damaged During Basketball Game: Cops

Police responded to calls of shots being fired outside Zion-Benton Township High School while a basketball game was played inside.

ZION, IL — Zion police are continuing to investigate an incident Tuesday night after officers were called to Zion-Benton Township High School after there were reports of shots being fired in the school’s parking lot during a high school basketball game, police said.

Police said in a social media post on Tuesday night that two cars were damaged in the apparent shooting and that the shooter or shooters fled by the time officers arrived. Police said the incident took place while a game between Zion and Waukegan was taking place inside the school.

Police said that officers arrived within minutes of reports coming in regarding shots had been fired and reported on Tuesday night there was no active shooter at the scene when investigators arrived. Multiple other police agencies were called due to the number of people who were at the school at the time that the shots were fired.
