Cops Take Man's Guns, Don't Arrest Him Until 2 Months Later

Lake Forest police charged Edward Brooks in connection with possessing four firearms without a valid ID card.

Illegal Possession of Firearms

Edward R. Brooks, 56, of the 1200 block of Winwood Drive, was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm without a valid firearm owner’s identification card almost two months after finding him with illegally held guns, according to Lake Forest police reports.

Brooks was stopped by an officer Dec. 18, and he was found with four firearms but no required firearm owner’s identification card, the report stated. Police confiscated the weapons at that time, the report added.

At about 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 5, police took Brooks in to custody at his home on an arrest warrant for possessing a firearm without a valid FOID card, the report stated. Brook’s posted $25,000 bond, and his court date is Feb. 18.

Felony Driving With a Revoked License

Mario R. Arriga, 56, of the 0-100 block of South Butrick Street, Waukegan, was arrested and charged with felony driving with a revoked license after a Feb. 9 traffic stop, according to Lake Forest police reports.

Police pulled over Arriga at about 7:50 a.m. for driving with a flat tire along Westleigh Road, the report stated. A background check revealed Arriga’s license had been revoked, and he was charged with a felony count because of numerous previous arrests, the report added.

Arriga’s court date is Feb. 23.
