Garden Club Helps Kids With Mother’s Day

Lake Bluff organization helps children make Mother's Day gifts while raising money for the community at its 51st annual Garden Market.

Children had a chance to make Mother’s Day Gifts and the Lake Bluff Garden Club raised money to help beautify the community Saturday at its 51st annual Garden Market on the Village Green.

Members and others grow the plants and donate them to the Garden Market where they are sold to help the 96-year-old club raise money it puts back into the community, according to event chair Joan Kraus.

“People grow the plants in their gardens,” Kraus said. “They are all donated and we use the money to beautify Lake Bluff. The planters you see around (downtown) are one of the things we do.”

Lake Bluff Library Director Eric Bailey gets involved with the children and gift giving. “He does story time,” Kraus said.

Children also have the opportunity to prepare something special for Mother’s Day. “They pot a plant and make a card.” The cost is $5. That money too is donated to the club and used to help beautify the community.

There was also a large section of plants that were preordered. “Anyone interested in donating a plant or placing an order can get in touch with the Lake Bluff Garden Club,” Kraus said. The place to do that is at P.O. Box 273, Lake Bluff, Il. 60044.
