Shooting Cancels 4th Of July Fireworks, Festival In Lake Forest
Following a mass shooting in Highland Park, all activities scheduled for Monday afternoon and night have been canceled.
UPDATE: Due to a mass shooting in Highland Park Monday, the 15th Annual Lake Forest Fireworks and Festival has been canceled.
The City of Lake Forest said in a post on its website:
"Due to the shooting in Highland Park, the City of Lake Forest is cancelling the Annual Lake Forest Festival and Fireworks at Deerpath Community Park out of an abundance of caution. The Parks and Recreation Department and Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation will provide additional information about the event as it becomes available. Forest Park Beach will be closed for the remainder of the day today, July 4 out of an abundance of caution and to address safety concerns of lakefront staff. Please go home and stay safe. The City extends its deepest condolences to our neighbors in Highland Park."

LAKE FOREST, IL — After two years of modifications or cancelations, residents in cities and counties across the country are looking forward to many of the traditional Independence Day activities that mark the summer holiday. July 4 is tomorrow, so there’s still time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you in 2022.
The Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade is due to return to its traditional route, and the lead singer from the rock band Boston is set to headline the annual Lake Forest Fireworks and Festival.
July 4 Festivities in Lake Forest-Lake Bluff
What: 112th Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade
When: 10 a.m. July 4, kids parade begins 9:30 a.m.
Where: Village Green to Artesian Park
This year's theme is "Go 4th and March On," and the Lake Bluff Lawn Mower Precision Drill Team, known for its satirical and sometimes controversial contributions to the parade, will be 2022 marshal as it celebrates its 50th anniversary — or "golden mow."
“We are busy planning for a packed route and full-scale parade,” Jennifer Leventhal, president of the Lake Bluff 4th of July Committee, said in a statement. “We will bring back some old favorites and mix in some new and exciting performing units. 2022 will be epic — especially with the Mowers in the lead.”
What: 15th Annual Lake Forest Fireworks and Festival
When: 6-10 p.m. (Gates open at 5 p.m., with fireworks around 9:40 p.m.)
Where: Deerpath Community Park, 95 Deerpath Road
The Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation is organizing the family-friendly ticketed event with live classic rock music and kids activities ahead of fireworks set to patriotic tunes.
"This year's music entertainment is Tommy DeCarlo, singer of Boston with special guest Rudy Cardenas of American Idol performing the classic hits of Boston & Journey. Two great concerts, all the classic hits, and all the memories in one unforgettable evening," organizers announced.
Tickets are $30 for Lake Bluff and Lake Forest resident and $35 for non resident and available online. VIP and premier parking passes are also available.
