LWV-LF/LB Encourages All to Attend Democracy Tour 2025 on June 26th

Citizen Advocacy Center Hosting Democracy Tour 2025 at Gorton Community Center

Is our shared civic health on your mind? Join your neighbors to discuss the state of our democracy and ways to improve civic life and local governance. On June 26th from 7 pm-9 pm at the Gorton Community Center, attend to express your ideas and concerns, and learn ways to strengthen our civic fabric and increase participation in local elections. This event is being hosted by the Citizen Advocacy Center (CAC) and endorsed by the League of Women Voters Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area.

Across Illinois and the nation, confidence in our democratic systems is eroding. The strength of our democracy depends on an active, informed, and engaged community, yet voter participation in local elections remains alarmingly low. The shuttering of long-time local news outlets and the emergence of wildly divergent social media chatter can confound our ability to make informed decisions.

In response, the Citizen Advocacy Center has initiated a Democracy Tour, a bold initiative to strengthen our communities’ capacities for self-governance and to build a democracy that works for everyone. The Citizen Advocacy Center is a nonprofit dedicated to building democracy for the 21st century by strengthening the citizenry's capacities, resources, and institutions for self-governance.

On the evening of Thursday, June 26, CAC's Executive Director, Jack Bentley, will lead a discussion about the state of democracy and what we can do about it. Jack is in his 13th year as an attorney in Illinois. He worked in both the public and private sectors before coming to CAC in 2023. He is leading the charge to expand CAC's reach to Lake County and beyond.

The LWV LF/LB Co-Vice President, Janet White, says, “The League believes this opportunity for neighbors to gather and exchange ideas for improving civic life and governance at the local level promotes an engaged and well-informed citizenry. We encourage all to join the conversation.”
