Lemont Extreme Heat Watch: 110 Peak Heat Index Possible Wednesday, Thursday

An extreme heat watch has already been issued for Lemont, which will be in effect starting Wednesday morning through Thursday evening.

LEMONT, IL — Dangerously hot conditions are coming to the Chicago area later this week, including in Lemont.

An extreme heat watch has already been issued for Lemont, which will be in effect starting Wednesday morning, running through Thursday evening. The weather service said that heat index values of 105 to 110 are possible.

Heat indices on Wednesday night will likely stay around 90 degrees, so little to no heat relief is expected until something Thursday night, according to the weather service.

With the incoming heat wave, the Village of Lemont is reminding residents about available cooling centers in Lemont. Cooling centers operate at:

  • Lemont CORE, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday; and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday
  • Lemont Library, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday
  • Lemont Township, 16300 Alba St., 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Lemont Village Hall, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday

After hours, you can call the Lemont Police Department's non-emergency phone number at 630-257-2226 for assistance. In the event of an emergency situation, please call 911.

Waste Management will also do earlier pick-up on Wednesday and Thursday. Lemont customers should have items for collection out and ready by 5 a.m. on these days for your regularly scheduled waste and recycling pickup.
