Lemont High School, Midwest Heart Foundation to Provide Free Cardiac Screenings for Students

students will soon have the opportunity to receive a free heart screening through the Midwest Heart Foundation's Young Hearts for Life program. 

The screenings, which will take place March 1 on the Lemont High School campus, were made possible "through the support of generous donors," District 210 officials said.

All students whose parents or guardians authorize them to be tested are eligible to be screened, according to a press release.

The Midwest Heart Foundation in a non-profit organization that provides free electrocardiograms (EKG or ECG), as well as echocardiograms. The screenings help identify students who may be at risk for sudden cardiac death.

According to the release, more than 65,000 students have been screened since the founding of the Young Hearts for Life program in 2006.

Volunteers Needed

District 210 officials said male and female adults are still needed to assist with the EKG screenings.

Volunteers are needed to complete various tasks, including checking in students and applying patches for EKG leads. Volunteers do not need to have a medical background.

Individuals are needed for both the morning and afternoon shifts March 1. Training is mandatory, and will be held during the evening on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

How to Register for Screenings

Parents/guardians may register their children for the screenings online by visiting www.lhs210.net and clicking the “Young Hearts for Life Cardiac Screenings” page, which is located under the “Athletics” tab.
