Shaughnessy said drivers should also remember to turn on their headlights.

"Many cars have automatic headlights these days, but those don't always turn on in inclement weather," he said.

Lemont Public Works Director Ralph Pukula said his crews have been on the roads since Thursday morning, and a shift change is planned for midnight.

Heading into the evening, Pukula said wind was more of an issue than snow.
