LEMONT, IL — Lemont resident Jean Bellair will soon release her second book in a series loosely based on her daughter's experiences after her Type 1 diabetes diagnosis at age 8.

Bellair's second book, entitled "Dollars for Diabetes," is the second in the Annie and Friends' Adventures series.

"The main character (Annie) and her best friend (Danae) are on a mission to raise money for the diabetes walk," Bellair told Patch. "They decide on a goal and then with the support of the community they reach their goal."

Bellair released the first book, "D for Diabetes," last year. She wrote the book after watching her daughter, Annie, deal with diabetes, and seeing little representation in any fiction books.

Bellair said the second book was "more fun" to write.

"I think the readers will like it too — who doesn't love a mystery?" she said. "The second book gives the readers a chance to get to know the characters better and enjoy a storyline about friendship. The book still revolves around diabetes, but I believe that all readers will enjoy seeing Annie and Danae's friendship grow."

Bellair said the story was once again loosely based on a real-life situation involving the two girls and their desire to raise money for the walk.

A book launch is scheduled to celebrate the second book, set for Aug. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Pollyanna Brewing. All are welcome.
