Old Quarry NJHS Inducts 54 Students

Eighth-graders were inducted Thursday, Nov. 10, to the 2011-2012 chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.

The following article was submitted to Patch by Jennifer Egan, co-sponsor of the chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. It was written by eighth-grader Taylor Campos, the NJHS public relations chair.

On Thursday, Nov. 10, 54 symbolic flames lit up the gratified smiles of newly-inducted National Junior Honor Society members at Old Quarry Middle School.

The ceremony, held to recognize, cherish and begin a new chapter in NJHS history, formally inducted 54 commendable students. These eighth-graders exemplify scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship, for which they were individually presented with a strong handshake from Principal Bill Caron.

The official NJHS pledge, considered the doorway to membership, was recited collectively:

"I pledge to uphold the high purposes of the National Junior Honor Society to which I have been selected. I will be true to the principles for which it stands, I will be loyal to my school, and I will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship and character."

"Our members are dedicated to scholarship and contributing to our community," said NJHS President Ace Matthews. "I look forward to an enjoyable and productive year."
