Reception Planned for 'Lemont Loves the Arts' Participants

Medalists will be honored from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lemont Center for the Arts, 1243 State St.

Dozens of students will be honored Wednesday night for their participation in the second annual "Lemont Loves the Arts" showcase.

A reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lemont Center for the Arts, 1243 State St., and will recognized the top three artists in a broad range of categories.

Nearly 200 students from Lemont's public and private schools participated in the program, which featured entries from students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Though the majority of entries were in the traditional fine arts category, many students also contributed work in areas such as photography, dance, music, literature and computer-generated art.

First, second- and third-place winners were awarded by outside judges — Lynn Antonopoulos, Mary Inman, Dino Juarez, Aldo Mazzotti, Mona Parry, Lisa Simone Porter, Laurie Saulys, Stan Sczepanski and Rachel Snyder — who had expertise in their media.

This year's theme, “My Dream Is...,” required students to reflect on their dreams for the world and themselves.

"Lemont Loves the Arts" was created last year by Lemont's parent-teacher organizations to bring all of the village's schools together through art.

The students' artwork will be on display through Feb. 26. The Lemont Center for the Arts is open Friday from noon to 4 p.m.,  Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
