Safety Upgrades Added To Crossings At Lemont, Stephen Streets

Areas near the tracks have been striped and delineators have been added.

LEMONT, IL — New safety measures have been added to Lemont railroad crossings throughout the downtown to deter visitors from accidentally turning onto the tracks.

At the Monday Village Board meeting, Lemont Police Chief Marc Maton thanked CN Railway for partnering on the project, which included upgrades at the crossings at Stephen and Lemont streets, just north of Main Street.

"We were able to stripe that area and put delineators up," Maton said. "The goal is to prevent cars from turning on those tracks that we've had a frequency of in the past."

"This has been an ongoing issue," he said. "There's never a perfect way of doing it, but I've been hearing decent feedback and people appreciating that it's not too obnoxious, and it doesn't take away from the charm."
