Man Found Dead After Woman Slain At Lemont Motel: Police

Police say a man is dead after they believe he fatally shot a woman at an Archer Avenue motel on Thursday.

LEMONT, IL — Shortly after a woman was found dead after being shot during a "disturbance" at a Lemont motel, a man was also found dead in an adjacent room, police said.

Officers were called to the D-Lux Budget Inn, 12241 Archer Ave., around 9:30 a.m. for a report of a disturbance and found the woman dead with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police, who said Thursday afternoon that they had identified a person of interest in the shooting.

Just before 8:30 p.m., Lemont police issued a second news release, saying that "a short time after responding to the previously reported incident," officers canvassing adjacent rooms found a man, identified as 62-year-old Richard Crane, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

An investigation showed that the gun Crane used to take his own life was also used in the woman's death, the release said. The woman's identity has not yet been released.

Police said a motive for the killing is not known, and investigators have not yet established any relationship between Crane and the woman.
