Dog Rescued From Destructive Round Lake Heights House Fire

According to a GoFundMe page, the home belonged to the a family of five and their dog, who are all safe.

ROUND LAKE HEIGHTS, IL — A family dog was rescued Saturday during a fire at a Round Lake Heights home, according to several reports. No one else was home when firefighters from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District were called to fire in the 2300 block of Iroquois Lane around 5:02 p.m., Battalion Chief Bill Rohrs of the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District reported, according to the Daily Herald. Crews from five other departments also responded to help get the fire almost under control within about 20 minutes, though the home is uninhabitable, according to Rohrs.

The cause of Saturday's fire isn't known, and a damage estimate isn't available, according to the news report.

A GoFundMe page for the family was launched over the weekend by family member Stephanie Altman, with a $10,000 fundraising goal. According to the page, the home belonged to the Rodriguez Family — parents Russ and Jen, their three children, and dog, Ellie.

"Though we cannot replace the memories and the sentimental heirlooms, I would love to help replace all the rest," Altman wrote. "If anyone deserves generosity, it's the Rodriguez family. They are always the first to help anyone in need, let's return the favor!"

The family member and others are also putting together an Amazon Wish List for the parents and three children, in addition to getting a storage unit to start collecting clothes, furniture, and other donations.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $4,300 has been raised for the family.
