"This offender will never be able to harm anyone in our community again. I want to commend the Libertyville Police Department on their 2016 investigation and the trial team for securing a guilty verdict this year,” Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said in a news release on Friday.
“This long case can finally come to a close in our courthouse because of their work. We hope that this maximum sentence assists the survivors in their healing process, and we will continue to support them.”

During the sentencing hearing, Presiding Judge James Booras heard three victim impact statements. The statements explained the overwhelming trauma each person lives with every day due to Main’s actions. The statements described Main’s acts as “inhumane,” “heinous” and “monstrous.”
The statements went on to detail being stripped of their normal life, emphasizing how Main's “ugliness” and “sickness” will never be fixed.
The State argued to Booras that the acts committed by Main were traumatic, unacceptable, and unjustifiable. The State emphasized the devastating pain that each person described and requested 100 years in prison. The defense asked for the minimum in prison of 80 years, the news release said.
Before Booras sentenced Main, he described Main’s acts as “despicable.” Booras further noted that Main denied responsibility and downplayed his actions throughout the investigation and sentencing.
Main had been held on $1.5 million bond in the Lake County Jail from the time of his arrest until his trial. After the verdict, Booras revoked his ability to post cash bond. Under the terms of the sentencing, Main must serve 85 percent of the 120-year sentence.
