A convicted felon on parole for beating a child was arrested after Waukegan police say he punched his 4-year-old son in the face, causing bodily harm.
Kendall J. Brown, 27, of the 1400 block of Muirfield Avenue in Waukegan, was charged with aggravated battery of a child under 13 causing bodily harm, domestic battery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.

A criminal complaint filed in Lake County court alleges Brown struck his 4-year-old son in the face with a closed fist, causing bodily harm.
The incident occurred in the 800 block of Holdridge Avenue in Winthrop Harbor around 10 p.m. March 27.

Brown also was found in possession of a loaded .22 caliber revolver inside a vehicle in the 2700 block of Belvidere Road in Waukegan, according to the complaint.
Brown, who is on parole, is not allowed to carry any firearms.

Brown was convicted in 2015 of attempted aggravated battery on a child causing permanent disability and aggravated battery on a child causing great bodily harm, according to court records.
He was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections but only served four years. He was released on parole in April 2020.
The Waukegan Police Department investigated Brown’s most recent charges and arrested him on March 28.
A bond hearing was held on March 29 and Lake County Judge Paul Novak ordered Brown held on a $200,000 bond.
Brown would have to post $20,000 cash to be released on bail. He was remanded to the Lake County Jail where he remains held.
Brown, who was appointed a public defender, is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 20.
