Vernon Hills Man Among 2 Robbed At Gunpoint In Des Plaines

A group of friends was leaving Rivers Casino in Des Plaines when they were robbed, police said.

DES PLAINES, IL — A 28-year-old Vernon Hills man is among three people held at gunpoint and robbed while leaving Rivers Casino last week.

Police officers in Des Plaines went to Rivers Casino, at 3000 S. River Road, at about 1:45 a.m. on Sept. 30 after a 38-year-old Palatine woman called to report that four men armed with guns approached her, her husband and their friend, a 28-year-old Vernon Hills man, and tried to steal their vehicle.

The group was leaving the casino when they saw a man wearing a full face cover approaching their 2018 white Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to a news release from the Des Plaines Police Department. The woman told police she also noticed three other men with face coverings, one who was armed with a gun and standing in front of the Jeep.

The woman's husband, a 40-year-old Palatine man, tried to approach the driver's side of the Jeep. At that time, one of the men in a nearby parked Volvo flashed a gun at him and told him to stay away.

The couple began walking away from their vehicle when one of the men got out of the Jeep, ran toward the husband, pointed the gun at his face and pulled off his silver necklace, according to the news release. The same man approached the 28-year-old Vernon Hills man and pointed a gun at him and ripped off his necklace.

The man then ran back to the Volvo and fled the scene with the three other men. No one was injured in the incident and police are continuing to investigate.
