Kids' Mario Kart Tournament at Lisle Library Thursday

Stuff going on in and around Lisle for Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013.

Here’s some of what’s going on in and around Lisle for Thursday, Aug. 8:

·      The Lisle Library is hosting a grade 2-6 tournament of that august titan of kooky racing games: Mario Kart! The shell-firing antics kick off at 4:30 p.m. at the Library (777 Front Street) in Meeting Room B. Registration is required; as of writing, there are still openings—or just come and kibitz!

·      Battle of the big bands in Naperville! “Join The Naperville Big Band led by Tracy Oliver for a good old-fashioned ‘battle of the bands’ with the Jazz Community Big Band led by Marianne May. Bring a picnic, sit on the benches or bring your own lawn chairs!” It’s free and starts at 7:30 p.m. at 104 E. Benton Ave., Naperville.

·      If Mario Kart isn’t your kid’s thing, how about taking them to Storytime at Prairie Walk Pond (Route 53 and Garfield,) instead? “Come and hear great stories and more in the great outdoors! Bring a blanket or just come and stretch out on the grass and enjoy some of our favorite summertime stories.” It’s just a half hour from 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
