Recycling Event Planned At Benedictine University

Residents can start spring cleaning by recycling bikes, electronics, batteries and other items during the Sustainable Saturday event.

LISLE, IL — Residents can get a head start on their spring cleaning by recycling electronics, holiday lights, CDs and records, clothes and other items at a Sustainable Saturday recycling event planned for March 19 at Benedictine University, 5700 College Rd.

Document shredding will also be available at the event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Rice Center Parking Lot at Benedictine.

Televisions and computer monitors can be recycled for a fee of $25 to $35. Latex paint will be accepted at $1 per quart, $3 per gallon and $15 per five gallons.

The following items can be dropped off to be recycled at no cost.

  • Electronic items
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Vinyl records
  • Books
  • Bicycles, bike helmets, accessories
  • Household, dry cell and SLA batteries
  • Holiday lights
  • Clothes and shoes
  • Sporting goods
  • Musical instruments
  • Sheet music
  • Eyeglasses
  • Hearing aids
  • Keys
  • Crayons
  • Rulers
  • Polystyrene foam #6

Paper shredding will be available throughout the March 19 event. Residents are limited to two banker- or file-style boxes or three paper shopping bags per car. Binders and plastic bags will not be accepted.

Those who attend the recycling event can access the drop-off area by taking Benedictine Drive from Maple Avenue (east of Benedictine Parkway) to Rice Center Parking Lot.
