Police Blotter: Burglary Suspect Leads Police on Foot Chase, Causes School Lockdown
After putting Steeple Run Elementary School on lockdown, officers found Orlando Chapa hiding in a backyard under several thick bushes, police said.

Police said a man who led them on a foot chase Tuesday causing a lockdown at Steeple Run Elementary School has been arrested on several charges including residential burglary and obstruction.
Orlando R. Chapa, 29, 2443 West Harrison, Chicago, was charged with residential burglary, criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to property and resisting or obstructing a peace officer at 11:41 a.m. Tuesday in the 2800 block of Windsor Drive, police said.
Reports said Lisle police officers were called to the area at 11:04 a.m. to investigate a possible residential burglary in progress at 2888 Windsor Drive, Apt. 101. Officers responded and subsequently met with Chapa in the Green Trails Shopping Center parking lot.

Police said when approached for investigative purposes, Chapa ran north across Maple Avenue into the Steeple Run residential area. Officers pursued him, but were not able to immediately take him into custody. Additional police agencies were contacted and responded to the area, and a perimeter was established in the area where Chapa was last seen running.
At about 11:20 a.m., the Lisle Police Department received information that a cutting tool had been used during the burglary. Due to safety concerns, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office was notified to initiate a lockdown of the Steeple Run Elementary School for precautionary purposes.

At 11:41 a.m., officers found Chapa hiding in the backyard under several thick bushes at 24W661 Lakewood, police said.
Police said Chapa was taken to the DuPage County Jail to await a bond hearing.
