MANHATTAN, IL — Independence Day falls on a Friday in 2025, kicking off a star-spangled three-day weekend packed with fireworks, festivals and other Fourth of July fun around Manhattan.

To help you fit it all in on your 4th of July calendar, Patch has put together a guide to what’s going on in Manhattan and the surrounding areas.

MANHATTAN

JULY 5: Manhattan Independence Day Parade
200 Second St., Manhattan

Join the Village for the annual Independence Parade as they celebrate our nation’s freedom and the spirit of our community! The community is invited to come together to showcase our pride, unity, and joy in a spectacular display of red, white, and blue!

NEW LENOX

JULY 4: New Lenox Independence Day Celebration 2025
101 Veterans Parkway, New Lenox

Don't miss a performance by Billy Gray Music as they take the stage from 6 to 8 pm. Following Billy Gray Music will be the Joliet American Legion Band to lead into the fireworks display with patriotic tunes. The fireworks display will take place at dusk (approximately 9:15 pm).

Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for sale from the concession stand courtesy of the New Lenox Community Park District. Additionally, two food trucks will be on site:

  • Drew's Dogs
  • Los Razo's Mexican Grill

MOKENA

JULY 3: Mokena Independence Day Celebration 2025
Mokena Main Park, 10925 W La Porte Rd., Mokena

The Village of Mokena and the Mokena Community Park District invites the community to the expanded July 3 festival at Main Park, 10925 W. LaPorte Rd.

Free kids games and inflatables offered from 4 to 6:30 p.m., and a Magic show at 6:30 p.m.The entertainment will kick off at 5 p.m. with the Encore Concert Band. The Encore Concert Band are comprised of community members who enjoy playing quality orchestra music together, fostering a greater appreciation for music and providing entertainment at the highest level. Band "28 Days" takes the stage at 7:30.

Food trucks include Hawaiian Food Truck Chicago, Kona Ice, Smokin' Z BBQ, TCBY, Joey's Red Hots, Avocado Theory, Ricobene's on 26th Street, Nothing Bundt Cake, Waffle Hero, Martino's Mobile Pizza, ParTea Boba and Catering, and Cousins Maine Lobster.

TINLEY PARK

JULY 4: Tinley Park Independence Day Celebration 2025
McCarthy Park, 16801 S 80th Ave, Tinley Park

The Village of Tinley Park and Tinley Park-Park District bring the July 4 celebration back to McCarthy Park. Festivities will kick off with live music by Five Guys Named Moe at 4 p.m., followed by food and beverages for sale from local vendors, inflatables for kids, bingo, a magic show by the Great Boodini, a gun salute and flag-raising ceremony, and a concert by Spoken Four at 7 p.m. The celebration will end with a fireworks show set to patriotic music at 9:30 p.m. Visitors will also be able to enjoy mini golf and batting cages all day.

ORLAND PARK

JULY 4: Orland Park July 4 Fireworks, Independence Day Celebration 2025
Centennial Park West Amphitheater, 15609 Park Station Blvd

The Village of Orland Park hosts a a free pet & kids bike parade, concert featuring In The Stix followed by 90’s Pop Nation, presentation of colors and fireworks. Parade starts at 5 p.m. Concert begins at 5:30pm with country pop band, In the Stix followed by headliner 90’s Pop Nation playing your favorite 90’s hits. Concessions and drinks available for purchase. Fireworks at 9:30.

FRANKFORT

JULY 4: 4th of July Fireworks
Main Park, 200 S. Locust St.

Park will open at 7 p.m. at Main Park, 200 S. Locust St. DJ will begin at 7:30 p.m., and fireworks will start around 9:15 p.m. The firework display is sponsored by the Village of Frankfort, Frankfort Firefighters Foundation and Frankfort Firefighters Local 4338.

Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. In that document, the 13 original colonies declared their independence from Great Britain.

During the pivotal summer of 1776, the pre-Revolutionary celebrations honoring King George III’s birthday were replaced with mock funerals as a symbolic break from the crown.

It was an exciting time in Philadelphia — the Continental Congress voted to break from the crown and, two days later on July 4, the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the original 13 colonies —New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland. Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia — to adopt the Declaration of Independence.

The first annual commemoration of the nation’s independence was in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777, while the Revolutionary War was ongoing. Fireworks have been part of Fourth of July festivities since the first celebration in Philadelphia.

Today, Americans celebrate with fireworks, parades, concerts, and family gatherings and barbecues. Celebrations, though, predate by centuries the designation of Independence Day as a federal holiday, which didn’t happen until 1941.
