Gas Price Update: Gas Prices Set New Records (Again) Around Manhattan

MANHATTAN, IL — Manhattan residents are getting squeezed hard at the pump as gas prices continue to set record highs in Illinois and across the United States.

The average price of gas in Illinois was at about $5.40 per gallon Monday, according to AAA. That's a 43 cent increase from just a week ago, and up a whopping 84 cents cents from a month ago.

In Will County, the average price for a gallon of gas was around 16 cents over the state average on Monday at about $5.56 per gallon.

But, if you know where to look, you can find cheaper gas prices throughout Will County.

In Manhattan, the cheapest gas Monday was at Citgo, 270 W. North St., at $5.45.

The cheapest gas in Will County Monday was at Pilot, 6002 W. Monee-Manhattan Road in Monee, selling for $5.13.

Nationally, the average gas price Monday was about $4.87 per gallon. It was $3.05 at this same point last year, according to AAA.

Illinois' gas prices ranked No. 5 in the lower 48 of the county. Rounding out The Top 5 states in gas price averages Monday were California at $6.34, Nevada at $5.49, Oregon at $5.42 and Washington at $5.41, according to AAA. Georgia had the lowest national gas price average at around $4.29.
