Gas Price Update: Prices Up In Manhattan Ahead Of Memorial Day Weekend

Gas prices are at record highs Wednesday around Manhattan, so before you fill up the tank, take a look at the lowest gas prices nearby.

MANHATTAN, IL — Just ahead of Memorial Day weekend, a typically busy time on the roadways, Manhattan residents are getting no relief at the pump with gas prices continuing to set record high in Illinois.

The average price of gas in Illinois was at about $4.97 per gallon Wednesday, according to AAA. That's up 5 cents from a week ago and up 57 cents from a month ago.

In Will County, the average price for a gallon of gas was around 9 cents over the state average on Wednesday at about $5.06 per gallon.

But, if you know where to look, you can find cheaper gas prices throughout Will County.

In Manhattan, the cheapest gas around Wednesday was at Citgo, 270 W. North St., at $4.88 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.

There were even lower prices in other spots in Will County Wednesday. Moshen, 24001 Lorenzo Road in Wilmington, was selling for $4.55. Here are some other places you can save near Manhattan:

  • Casey's, 280 E. Main St. in Braidwood, $4.62.
  • Circle K, 105 S. Front St. in Braidwood, $4.62.
  • BP, 105 N. Front St. in Braidwood, $4.69.
  • Shell, 3195 Division St. in Diamond, $4.74.

Nationally, the average gas price Wednesday was about $4.60 per gallon. It was $3.04 at this same point last year, according to AAA.

Illinois' gas prices ranked No. 5 in the lower 48 of the county. Rounding out The Top 5 states in gas price averages Wednesday were California at $6.07, Nevada at $5.24, Washington at $5.22 and Oregon at $5.17, according to AAA. Oklahoma had the lowest national gas price average at around $4.08.
