Gas Prices Update: Downward Trend Continues In And Around Manhattan

Gas prices were well under $5 for the fourth week in a row in and around Manhattan. Here's a look at where to find the cheapest gas around.

MANHATTAN, IL — Manhattan residents saw another start to the week with lower prices at the pump Monday, as prices teased getting closer to going under the $4 per gallon mark.

Motorists have seen lower prices consistently for the past four weeks, as part of an overall downward trend across the state and the nation.

In Illinois, the overall average dipped to $4.28, which is down 14 cents from this time last week and down 78 cents from a month ago, according to AAA.

In Manhattan, the cheapest gas Monday was at Citgo, 270 W. North St., at $4.23, according to GasBuddy. That's 19 cents below what the best price in town was at this time last week.

The average in Will County remained above the state average Monday, sitting at about $4.36 per gallon, according to AAA.

Gas can be found under $4 a gallon around Manhattan, if you know where to look.

The cheapest gas in Will County Monday was at Costco, 16261 S. Boulevard Place in Plainfield, selling for $3.85.

Here are some other places you can save near Manhattan:

  • Sam's Club, 321 S. Larkin Ave. in Joliet, $3.85.
  • Thorntons, 15800 S. Illinois Route 59 in Plainfield, $3.93.

Nationally, the average gas price Monday was about $3.96 per gallon. It was $3.41 at this same point last year, according to AAA.

Illinois' gas prices ranked No. 10 in the lower 48 of the county. The Top 5 states in gas price averages Monday were all out west, with California at $5.37, Nevada at $4.94, Oregon at $4.87, Washington at $4.81 and Idaho at $4.70, according to AAA. Texas had the lowest national gas price average at $3.46.
