Gas Prices Update: Manhattan Dips Under $5

Gas prices continued down this week in and around Manhattan, even falling below $5. Here's a look at where to find the cheapest gas around.

MANHATTAN, IL — Manhattan residents saw another week of lower prices at the pump, even crossing under the $5 per gallon mark.

Motorists will have to wait to see if the lower prices will continue long-term, but could be encouraged by the overall downward trend across the state and the nation.

In Illinois, the overall average dipped to $4.89, which is down 17 cents from this time last week and down a whopping 60 cents from a month ago, according to AAA.

In Manhattan, the cheapest gas Friday was at Citgo, 270 W. North St., at $4.96, according to GasBuddy.

The average in Will County remained above the state average Friday, sitting at about $5.09 per gallon, according to AAA.

Gas can be found under $5 a gallon around Manhattan, too, if you know where to look.

The cheapest gas in Will County Friday was at Murphy USA, 1481 Brook Forest in Joliet, selling for $4.51.

Here are some other places you can save near Manhattan:

  • Costco, 16261 S. Boulevard Place in Plainfield, $4.52.
  • Sam's Club, 321 S. Larkin Ave. in Joliet, $4.52.
  • BP, 4802 Canton Farm Road in Joliet, $4.55.
  • Mobil & Bucky's, 14808 S. Illinois Route 59 in Plainfield, $4.55.

Nationally, the average gas price Friday was about $4.41 per gallon. It was $3.16 at this same point last year, according to AAA.

Illinois' gas prices ranked No. 7 in the lower 48 of the county. The Top 5 states in gas price averages Friday were California at $5.79, Oregon at $5.21, Nevada at $5.19, Washington at $5.17 and Arizona at $4.73, according to AAA. Texas had the lowest national gas price average at $3.92.
