'Light Up Manhattan' Contest Looks For The Best In Lights Displays

The contest this year includes decorations on both homes and businesses, the Village said.

MANHATTAN, IL — Let's see those lights, Manhattan. Let your inner Clark Griswold shine.

The Village of Manhattan is opening its holiday lights contest to both homes and businesses this holiday season, with Light Up Manhattan.

In a change from previous years, Village officials decided to get residents in on the fun this year.

Anyone can enter by filling out the Village's form, visible below and also available on the Village's Facebook page. Entry deadline is Dec. 3; displays must be on by Dec. 6. All entries will then be included on a map of homes, for public use and viewing.

Few things to keep in mind:

  • Lights must be visible from the street/sidewalk. The Village is trying to prevent people from going onto private property to view.
  • Lights should be on a minimum of dusk until 10 p.m.

On Dec. 6, a poll will go live on the Light Up Manhattan Facebook event page, asking the public to make their picks for best display. There will be a People's Choice winner for both business and residential. The business category winner will be awarded a year's membership in the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce. The residential category winner will receive a $100 gift card.
