Manhattan Asked To Rally For Beloved Weatherman Battling Illness

Daniel Casper is a fixture in Manhattan, and has given of himself for years to help residents. Now they're being asked to give back.

MANHATTAN, IL — A beloved local meteorologist has fallen ill, and those closest to him are asking for the community he so loves to rally around him.

Daniel Casper, who operates Manhattan Weather Channel, is hospitalized at Silver Cross in New Lenox, where he is in intensive care and on a ventilator while his body fights to recover from RSV and other respiratory illnesses.

Mike Adrieansen and wife Laura have started a GoFundMe for Casper, to help with medical and living expenses amidst his illness.

"Dan has been a longtime friend of ours, and over the years, we’ve seen him dedicate himself to the Manhattan community—not for money, but for the safety and love for his community," they said. "We want to support him as he navigates these tough times."

Casper is known for his prompt weather news, shared frequently and widely among local social media ahead of significant weather events.

On his LinkedIn, Casper spoke of his reason for starting the channel in 2011.

"... for the sole purpose of keeping our area safe and informed about hazardous weather occurring, or forecast to occur in our area," it reads.

His forecasts have proven essential in the area.

"For over a decade, the Manhattan community has relied on Dan for accurate and timely weather updates," the GoFundMe reads. "His dedication has kept residents safe and their property protected. Always accessible and committed, Dan has been a trusted resource for so many.

"Now, it’s our turn to show up for him. As he navigates the road ahead, any financial support will make a difference."
