MANHATTAN, IL — Father's Day is the perfect time to give a big thanks to all the dads who put smiles on our faces. Manhattan, meet James Traut Sr.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This dad happens to be mine!

If you know a dad who sends sweet, silly or thoughtful texts your way, you’re pretty lucky. Texts from Dad have a way of putting a smile on our faces — and this Father’s Day, we’re celebrating the fathers behind the phones!

Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to shine a light on awesome dads and the funny, insightful things they say. This submission comes from James and Lauren Traut, who nominated Jim Traut Sr.

What makes your dad extra special?

Throughout our life, our father has worked his fin off keeping a roof over our head and food on our table, James says. From running a clothing store in our childhood or selling or cars or becoming a laborer, Dad found a way.

Dad is quick to help with household projects or necessary repairs, "even though I should probably have learned how to do them myself by now," Lauren says. He keeps an eye on her little zoo of two dogs and two cats, often pet-sitting while she chases her equestrian dreams around the Midwest and even the country.

"My animals might love him more than they do me," Lauren said.

Why do you feel your dad deserves the spotlight?

Watching him become a grandparent has been amazing, James said. Our boys wear #9 for in-house baseball because that was his number, and it's special. He makes every baseball game possible for all three boys and wears his NL hat proudly. He will talk about them to anyone that will listen.

Dad always checks in on Lauren while she's at a horse show, anxious to know how she's doing and if she's safe after each phase, she said. He comes to her rescue often when she's in a pinch.

His work at their farm allows her the space to pursue her riding, and it's appreciated more than she probably shows. Happy Father’s Day to Jim Traut, Sr., and thank you for all you do!
