Manhattan Mayor To Seek Second Term

MANHATTAN, IL — Manhattan Mayor Mike Adrieansen will seek a second term to continue working on "some of the biggest projects the village has undertaken in decades," he said Thursday in a release.

Adrieansen became mayor in April of 2021 and has lived in the village for nearly 20 years with wife Laura and two children.

"Our village is in the process of developing a comprehensive plan that will serve as a blueprint for how we grow and develop as a community for the next 20 years," said Adrieansen. "This plan will guide our use of land and resources as our village continues to grow. In addition, we are working on our downtown master plan to preserve our rich history while creating inviting new development space to attract new businesses and residents.

"I am asking the residents to let me continue leading our village through these projects and plan for our immediate needs."

Since taking office, Adrieansen has added additional police officers to the force, brought unprecedented economic development including the village’s first McDonald’s, added more community events for families and visitors and has pushed for major infrastructure improvements.

"The village board and I are working together to get things residents want, including more transparency and fiscal responsibility," Adrieansen stated. "Residents can expect me to continue leading Manhattan with integrity, passion, and unity. I will also remain focused on promoting new growth while respecting our community’s rich history. We have a small town feel that I intend to keep intact while we strive for continued improvements in economic development. This will allow the village to keep taxes affordable for families."

Adrieansen stated he will seek input from the village board and residents as he prepares a platform for his second term.

"I want to hear from the residents what they are looking for the board to accomplish in the next four years," Adrieansen said. "Working together, I believe Manhattan will continue to be a family friendly community to raise our children and take care of our senior population."

In the coming weeks, he said he intends to canvas neighborhoods in the village, collecting signatures, and most importantly, listening to constituents’ thoughts and concerns.

"I work for the residents and what matters most is they continue to trust me to do what is right for all of us."
