MANHATTAN, IL — It's about that time for some barbecue.

Arrowhead Smoke Works is set to open Feb. 12, owner Mike Bacon said.

Led by Manhattan resident Bacon, the barbecue spot opening at 195 S. State St., is a highly anticipated addition to the Manhattan business community.

"Our team would like to thank you for your unwavering patience, and the time has finally come to open our doors to the public," Creative Director Matt Sharp said on social media.

The doors will open at 11 a.m. Feb. 12, with hours from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Only dine-in or carry-out will be available at first, "until we get into our groove," staff said.

Ahead of the opening, staff asked for patience—and noted some other need-to-know bullet points.

Current seating options include five four-seat tables and an L-shaped section that can accommodate up to another eight people. They'll expand an outside area in the spring for additional seating.

"We will be making as much food as we possibly can for opening day, but depending on when you arrive, certain items may be sold out for the day," staff advised. "However, those items will be replenished for opening service on Thursday, Feb. 13."

Arrowhead Smoke Works is expected to offer a simple, but well-executed menu covering many different styles of BBQ. They'll offer brisket, pork, ribs, wings—and some other surprises as they get creative, Bacon previously told Patch.

For those avoiding gluten, their rubs and seasonings are gluten-free. Sauces are made in-house, too, with handcrafted recipes.

Come hungry, but be patient.

"There may be a line, items may sell out ... but we will have more the next day," staff said.

"We look forward to feeding you and becoming a pillar of this community."

Mayor Mike Adrieansen said he is eager to welcome the business.

“We’re always looking for ways to bring new businesses to Manhattan, and Arrowhead Smoke Works is a great example of how revitalizing an existing space can benefit the entire community," Adrieansen said. "Turning an abandoned building into a thriving restaurant not only adds to our local dining options, but also strengthens our local economy and creates jobs. I’m excited to welcome them to town and look forward to their success."

Bacon embraced the opportunity to bring his barbecue to his hometown.

"We are excited to bring our passion for high-quality craft food and beer to Manhattan," Bacon previously told Patch. "I live in Manhattan and see a great opportunity for BBQ and craft beer in this community. We are grateful to the Mayor and Village Board for being very easy to work with."
