MANHATTAN, IL — In what appears to be a mutual decision, Manhattan Village Administrator Nick Palmer has resigned, effective June 6.

The Manhattan Village Board at its May 7 meeting approved a resignation agreement for Palmer, who first began in the role just over a year ago.

"Nick Palmer served as the village administrator from January 3, 2023, and will end his affiliation with the village in June of 2024," according to a media statement included in the resignation agreement.

"Nick is leaving the village’s employment to pursue other professional opportunities, and the village and Mr. Palmer have mutually agreed he will leave the village’s employment on June 6, 2024. Nick’s service to the community was appreciated. We wish Nick success in his future endeavors."

The agreement—which terminates Palmer's contract early—states that neither party will make disparaging nor defamatory public remarks regarding the separation.

In a brief resignation letter, Palmer thanked the Village for his time in the role.

"For the reasons we have discussed, I have elected to submit my voluntary and irrevocable resignation of employment as the village administrator effective at the close of business on June 6, 2024," it read.

"I am happy to have had the opportunity to serve the residents of the Village of Manhattan. I extend my best wishes for a successful future for the Village of Manhattan, my former colleagues at the village, and Manhattan’s fine residents."

Palmer will be paid out for his accrued 182 hours of accrued vacation and paid time off. He'll stay on as a remote consultant until his final day in the role.
