MANHATTAN, IL — The Manhattan Junior High Athletic Boosters are rallying school spirit with an fundraising push for a custom mascot costume to bring "Demo"—a fun, monster-like character—to life. Demo will represent the Manhattan Demons and energize the crowd at both school and athletic events.

The Booster Club will continue fundraising efforts during the IESA Sectional Track Meet hosted at Manhattan Junior High on Saturday, May 17. All proceeds from concession sales that day will go directly toward the mascot fund—and thanks to a generous local supporter of the district, every dollar raised will be matched.

“Manhattan Junior High School has a rich history of school spirit, and this project is another example of that.” Vince Perillo, MJHS Principal and Athletic Booster Club spokesperson said.

“Demo originally started over 20 years ago when a student began dressing up as our unofficial mascot. With the efforts of some current students, we are excited to officially introduce Demo as a symbol of our strong school spirit. Students have been involved in the entire process, from designing the costume to planning for the fundraising.”

The club’s goal is to unveil the completed Demo mascot in time for the start of the 2025-2026 school year this August.
