Rumble Strips Added At Cedar And Baker Roads Intersection
The addition of the rumble strips is hoped to make the intersection safer for motorists.

MANHATTAN, IL — Motorists approaching Cedar Road via Baker Road in Manhattan will get a slight jolt thanks to rumble strips that were added Friday by the Village.
Three sets of rumble strips are set 200 feet apart from one another along the eastbound and westbound Baker Road, according to a post on the Village's Facebook page. The Village also installed new "Stop Ahead" signs with red flags Sept. 13 on Baker Road at the Cedar Road intersection.
"The Village of Manhattan is hopeful that this will alert drivers of the upcoming stop sign and make this intersection safer for all of those that travel through there," the post read.

While the additional safety measures are sure to be welcome by motorists, construction on turn lanes at and near the intersection of Cedar and Baker Roads is still delayed because an AT&T transmission line has not yet been relocated, according to an earlier report by Manhattan Mayor Mike Adrieansen.

Adrieansen told Patch on Sept. 10 that the Village has been advocating for reducing the speed limit on Cedar Road, as well as a four-way stop at the Cedar and Baker intersection; however, Cedar Road is under the jurisdiction of the Will County Division of Transportation, while Baker Road falls under the Village's jurisdiction.
The Will County Board is expected to consider reducing the speed limit at its October meeting, Will County DOT Director of Transportation Jeff Ronaldson told Patch.
