St. Joseph's Closes For A True Snow Day Ahead Of Storm

Manhattan's St. Joseph students will stay home from school and enjoy a true snow day Friday, with no required e-learning.

MANHATTAN, IL — St. Joseph School in Manhattan will be closed Friday, in anticipation of what's predicted to be a significant winter storm that could bring up to nine inches of snow with 50 mph wind gusts to the Chicago area.

"We have so many families at St. Joe's who come from all over—New Lenox, Manhattan, Monee, Peotone ..., " said Principal Colleen Domke.

She debated, Domke said, but ultimately she feared for the safety of families making the commute to and from the school. St. Joseph takes in students from nine towns spanning from Lockport, to Peotone and Monee.

"I don't want to get people there, and find out they can't get home," Domke said.

There will be no e-learning plans in place, Domke said. Students can enjoy a traditional snow day.
