Felon Caught With Stolen Gun, $16K In I-57 Traffic Stop: Will Co. Sheriff

PEOTONE TOWNSHIP — A Wisconsin man and convicted felon faces gun charges after Will County Sheriff's police seized a stolen gun and nearly $20,000 in cash during a traffic stop Friday.

At around 7:35 a.m. Friday, July 11, Will County Sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic stop on a gray Nissan Rogue after spotting a traffic violation on northbound I-57, just south of Wilmington-Peotone Road.

The vehicle was occupied by Donshea L. Trotter, 42, along with three juveniles.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found two guns: a 9mm Glock 17 and a Ruger 57 chambered in 5.7x28mm. A records check revealed the Glock had been reported stolen out of Milwaukee. Deputies also recovered around $16,000 in U.S. currency.

Trotter, a convicted felon, is legally prohibited from possessing firearms. He was taken into custody and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Trotter was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a loaded weapon, two counts of possession of a firearm with an invalid FOID, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and felon in possession of a weapon.

The three juveniles were released to a family member.
