Woman, 66, Fatally Struck By Motorcycle While Crossing Street: Police

The driver of the motorcycle, 50, was injured. The motorcycle slid across lanes of traffic and hit a sign before coming to a stop.

KANKAKEE, IL — Kankakee police are investigating after a motorcycle struck and killed a woman late Friday, according to a release.

On Friday, Sept. 26, at approximately 8:59 p.m., officers from the Kankakee Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident in the 2700 block of US Highway 45/52.

Police on scene learned that a motorcycle had struck a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway. The pedestrian, identified as Dorothy L. Smith, 66, of Kankakee, sustained critical injuries and was transported by the Kankakee Fire Department to Riverside Hospital where she later died, police said.

The 50-year-old male operator of the motorcycle sustained non-life-threatening injuries. After the initial collision, the motorcycle reportedly slid across several lanes of traffic, collided with a sign at the Fairview Motel, and eventually came to a stop.

Kankakee detectives responded to the scene and conducted an investigation, including photographing and processing the crash site. At this time, the incident remains an active and ongoing investigation.
