Mokena PD Accepting Applications For Police Officers

The Mokena Police Department has three open positions for police officers. Applications are being accepted through May 18.

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Police Department is accepting applications for full-time police officers. Applications are due by 4 p.m. May 18.

Starting pay is $66,770 per year, with salary steps increases twice per year for the first seven years. Top salary is $95,868 after seven years, with longevity incentives after 20 and 25 years of service.

Applicants must reside within 25 miles of the Village of Mokena.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following additional criteria:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or provide evidence of intention to become a U.S. citizen.
  • Driver’s License: Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Age Requirements: Applicants must be 21 years old, or 20 years old if they have successfully completed two years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university, and be under the age of 35 at the last date of filing applications unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1.
  • Education: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have successfully achieved an associate degree or 60 credit hours toward a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. The minimum educational requirement may be waived if one or more of the following applies: 1) The applicant is a veteran and has served 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable. 2) The applicant has served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty, recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under any circumstances other than honorable.
  • Character: Must have no felony convictions and possess good moral character suitable to the role of a law enforcement officer.
  • Testing: Must be able to participate and successfully complete all stages of the testing process.
  • P.O.W.E.R. Card: Must have/possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card from a certified testing agency at issued between Nov. 18, 2021 and May 18, 2022. (Note: Illinois full-time, certified law enforcement officers are exempt from needing to provide a P.O.W.E.R. Card.)

The Mokena Police Department has 35 full-time sworn officers serving a village with a population of approximately 20,000.
