What's The Scoop On The Best Ice Cream Spot In Or Around Mokena?
National Ice Cream Day is Sunday and Patch wants to know where local residents go to in order to get their fix on this summertime favorite.
MOKENA, IL — While President Ronald Reagan was well-known for his love of jelly beans, he also had an affinity for another sweet creation, so much so that he declared a month and day in honor of it. In 1984, Reagan proclaimed July as "National Ice Cream Month" and the third Sunday of July as "National Ice Cream Day.
This year, National Ice Cream Day is scheduled for Sunday. Ice cream shops and stores across the United States are offering special deals. For example, Dairy Queen will have a "sweet" deal available through its app. Baskin-Robbins is also offering some savings starting Sunday through July 22. As always, it's best practice to check ahead with your local shop to see if that location is participating.
In the spirit of the holiday, Patch is asking readers about their favorite ice cream spots in Mokena. Two years ago, we held a special poll and readers selected The Creamery, with locations at 19100 Wolf Rd. in Mokena as well as other locations in Frankfort, New Lenox, Orland Hills, and Manhattan as the top spot for ice cream in the area. Raffy's Candy Shop, which has locations in New Lenox and Frankfort, came in as the runner-up.
