April 'Stools' Turd Herding Event at Two Bostons

April Fool’s Day—that day each year reserved for practical jokes and other pranks—is just around the corner.

However, you might want to circle Sunday, March 27, on your calendar.

That day, two Naperville-based businesses — , a full-service pet supply store, and Sugar Monkey Cupcakes, which bakes customized cupcakes — are teaming up with Oswego-based The Pooper Scoopers, Inc. to celebrate …

… April Stool Day.

That’s right: April Stool Day (we’re not bleeping you).

The Two Boston Pet Boutique’s store at 2523 W. 75th St. near Route 59 (630-305-0150), is where Sunday’s April Stool Day — a celebration of pets and the piles they leave — takes place from 1-3 p.m.

And what better way to commemorate this day than to determine which men and women — and boys and girls — around the area can clean up those piles of poop the fastest.

Contestants will have an opportunity to scoop up as much doggie doo-doo as they can within 45 seconds during the “Terd Herding” contest — consisting of an Big Terd Division (those over age 12) and a Little Terd Division (for ages 12-and-under).

The top three finishers from each division who pick up the most poopy piles will receive gift certificates.

Scoopers and buckets are provided.

Still not ready to step into it? (The contest, that is.) Well, contestants can confidently take a deep breath because they won’t actually be trying to pick up the real thing. Each pile is a one-size, odorless, rubbery facsimile of Rover’s excrement that can be found at your nearest gag gifts store.

Toddlers also can join in the fun. They’ll be able to pick up these rubbery poop relics and try to toss them into the hole on a cornhole/bags board.

So the question begs to be answered: Why are these businesses reserving a day to mark those occasions when pets leave their mark on the lawn? For no other reason than this:

Poop happens.

“If you can’t laugh at poop, what can you laugh at?” said Kandra Wilkowski, owner of The Pooper Scoopers, Inc., which provides residential and commercial pet waste removal throughout Western Chicagoland. “It’s a great way to celebrate spring and have some fun.”

Another question begs to be answered: How does S – the store that specializes in custom-made cupcakes – figure into a day that personifies pet poop?

Well, Sugar Monkey Cupcakes (28 W. Chicago Ave., Naperville) is making its own cupcake just for this occasion:

Poopcakes.

Fear not: They’re edible, and quite delicious.
