The 9th Annual School District 203/204 Shootout for Cancer will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011. The event will take place at the Rocket Ice Arena in Bolingbrook, IL.
The 9th Annual District 203/204 Shootout for Cancer brings together the fiercest rivals in high school hockey—players from Neuqua Valley, Waubonsie Valley, Naperville Central and Naperville North High Schools, along with their classmates from the Tomahawks*--to fight for a common cause: a cure for cancer. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised from the Shootout activities go to the DuPage Chapter of the American Cancer Society, to help fund cancer research at Illinois medical centers and to provide support services for cancer patients living right in our own community.
The Shootout for Cancer was established in 2003 by Brian Kenney. Brian, a 2003 graduate of Neuqua Valley High School and an All-State goalie, spent much of his junior year battling testicular cancer. After his recovery, Brian wanted to find a way to give back to the group that played such an important role at that time: the American Cancer Society. With some help, he was able to start the Shootout. Since its inception 8 years ago, this growing event has raised over $152,000 to help fund the fight against cancer.
