Lorraine Ann Sowa
(nee Colzani)
Lorraine Ann Sowa, age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026, at StoryPoint in Romeoville, Illinois. Born on April 3, 1942, in Joliet, Illinois, Lorraine was a lifelong resident of the Joliet area. She was a graduate of Providence High School, where she laid the strong foundations and built lasting relationships that would characterize her life.
Lorraine married the love of her life, Eugene W. Sowa, with whom she shared many years of devotion, partnership, and treasured their trips together. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and the simple pleasures of time spent with family and friends. Lorraine was a homemaker who lovingly dedicated herself to raising her family, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with care and support.
Deeply involved in the lives of her children, Lorraine was always present and active, participating in PTA, band activities, and numerous school and family events. She was known for her constant support and quiet strength. Lorraine also had a talent for fixing things around the house—she loved to repair anything and everything, and took pride in being able to lend a practical hand wherever it was needed.
Above all, Lorraine will be remembered as loving and selfless. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into each generation that followed her.
Lorraine is survived by her two sons, David (Laurie) Sowa and Paul Sowa, Sr.; two daughters, Lori Allensworth and Beth Elliott; eight grandchildren, Paul Sowa Jr., Michelle (Keith) Batterman, Thomas (Nicole) Sowa, Ryan Sowa, Tyler (Emily) Sowa, Megan Allensworth; Robert “Bo” Elliott III, Nina Elliott and great-grandchildren, Colt and Piper Batterman, Braylee and Brielle Sowa, Olivia Allensworth, Marina Elliot and Trase Elliott. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive, all of whom will dearly miss her presence, guidance, and love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene W. Sowa; her parents; and two brothers, Francis (the late Carroll) Colzani and Richard (the late Sondra) Colzani.
