911 Caller Claiming To Be Boy Who Shot Brother Was Hoax: New Lenox PD

A report of a 16-year-old boy shooting his 22-year-old brother was determined to be a swatting call, New Lenox Police said Friday.

NEW LENOX, IL — Police are investigating after a 911 caller reporting to be a teen boy who had shot his older brother proved to be a hoax, New Lenox Police Chief Louis Alessandrini said Friday afternoon.

New Lenox police and fire were called Friday at 3 p.m. to the 600 block of Walker Way, for a caller reporting to be a 16-year-old boy who had allegedly shot his 22-year-old brother in the face. Police and fire at the scene received no response from inside the residence, and forced entry.

Once inside, first responders found an adult male playing a video game, Alessandrini said. Nobody was injured or shot, police said. Police learned the call had come from an outside number. It was determined the call was a swatting call, Alessandrini said.

A similar incident recently occurred in Homer Glen, when a male caller told dispatchers he had just shot his grandmother in the head, and was pointing his gun at two other family members, Will County Sheriff's Office said. The caller also said that he had someone held hostage, before hanging up. Deputies also determined that call to be a swatting one.
