Carjacking Suspects Taken Into Custody, No Local Charges Yet: NLPD

Two juveniles have been released pending further investigation. One juvenile and an adult face charges for crimes in Chicago.

NEW LENOX, IL — A juvenile male and two females, and one 18-year-old male found with a vehicle tied to a carjacking in New Lenox Tuesday were in custody late the same night after a chase by Illinois State Police, New Lenox police said Wednesday. No charges have been filed in connection to the New Lenox incident as of early Wednesday, police said.

Police said the four fled from the stolen Hyundai on foot before being taken into custody, and later interviewed by New Lenox police.

The stolen car was identified as used by offenders in the robbing and carjacking of an Uber driver in New Lenox early Tuesday morning. The vehicle stolen in the carjacking was abandoned nearby the scene shortly after the incident, the suspects then fleeing in the Hyundai, police said.

The Hyundai was found and is being processed for evidence by New Lenox police. The female juveniles were released pending further investigation.

The 18-year-old was charged with crimes that occurred in Chicago, New Lenox police said. The juvenile male juvenile was taken to a juvenile correction facility, also on Chicago charges.

New Lenox police worked with Chicago police to locate the vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
